The Natural History Museum at the University of Oslo is Norway’s oldest and largest museum of natural history. It is situated in the neighborhood of Tøyen in Oslo, Norway. It traces its roots to the University Botanical Garden, which was founded near Tøyen Manor in 1814.

The Natural History Museum is Norway’s largest collection of scientific objects. 6.2 million objects are found here, which is 65% of the country’s total natural history collections.

The university museums on Tøyen have a history dating back to 1812, when King Frederik VI gave the farm Tøyen as a gift to Norway’s new university. From 1999, all the units on Tøyen were merged into one institution – the University’s natural history museums and botanical garden. In 2005, the name was simplified to the Natural History Museum (NHM).

The entrance is through a modern pavilion, marked Museum entrance (see photo above), where you will also find the museum shop.
