The old and the new come together at Bærums Verk, where you will find everything from Norway’s oldest restaurant to a modern shopping centre.

Bærums Verk is a village in Bærum in Akershus, Norway, with a population of about 8000. It is located on both sides of the river Lomma.

Bærums Jernverk was built in 1610 by Paul Smelter, by order of King Christian IV. In 2010, the work celebrated its 400th anniversary.

In 1997, the old production facilities in Bærums Verk were rebuilt. The picturesque ironworks area is today one of the country’s most distinctive and vibrant centers for trade, crafts and history.

In 1762, the main building at Bærums Verk burned down. At the age of 79, Anna Krefting started the reconstruction – and the building was completed in 1764. When Anna Krefting died in 1766, the heirs sold the work to an interest company, which ran it until 1773.
